
His clinical and research interests have focused on the pathogenesis and treatment of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Currently he is working in collaboration with the Department of Health and Diabetes UK to improve the care of older people with diabetes.
Prior to joining the University of Bedfordshire in 2010 Dr Krentz was a Consultant in Diabetes & Endocrinology at Southampton University Hospitals and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Southampton UK. In 2005 he was British Heart Foundation International Research Fellow at the University of California San Diego USA. He has also held full-time research posts in Birmingham UK and at the University of New Mexico USA. Dr Krentz has published more than 150 papers, review articles, commentaries, editorials and book chapters. He has authored and edited several textbooks on diabetes and vascular disease.
Dr Krentz has been an elected Council member of the Section of Lipids, Metabolism & Vascular Disease for the Royal Society of Medicine since 2005; he serves as Section editorial representative to the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine.
In 2008 Dr Krentz was accredited as a clinical specialist in hypertension by the European Society for Hypertension. He is an elected member of the British Hypertension Society.
Dr Krentz is Associate Editor with special remit for cardiovascular disease for the official journal of Diabetes UK - Diabetic Medicine. He is also a member of national and international editorial boards including the British Journal of Diabetes & Vascular Disease, Diabetes and Vascular Disease Research, Drugs, Drugs & Ageing, and Prescriber.
